12/14/2006 2:13:16 PM Only about 2% of the labor pool makes minimum wage. Of that 2$, 65% of them are part-time: fast food workers, service workers, day laborers, etc. When unemployment is low, the labor pool is smaller, and employers have to pay more money to get good workers. When unemplyment is higher, workers are cheaper and more plentiful. Let market forces set the wage rate, not the government. Beside, when they start paying that McDonald's worker another $1 an hour, how do you think they are going to pay for it? By increasing the price of Big Macs. Any increase in minimum wage will come out of YOUR pocket. |
